I am a professional bass player, session musician, band leader, arranger, and musical director with over twenty years of experience.
Currently working with singer/songwriter Horse, I also lead a function band & jazz combo, and play in various jazz, function and ceilidh groups. I play double bass in the Glasgow Sinfonia orchestra, and can also be frequently found in the theatre pit.
I am familiar with most genres of Western music, and have a very open musical mind, so if you'd like me to play or dep for a musical venture not mentioned above, ask away.
On several occassions I have successfully depped in a band with literally five minutes notice, so keep my contact details handy, you never know when you'll need them!
I have performed with headline acts throughout the UK at prestigious venues such as Queen's Hall and Cabaret Voltare (Edinburgh), City Halls and Pavillion Theatre (Glasgow), The Lemon Tree (Aberdeen), Bush Hall (London), and The Stables (Milton Keynes).
Throughout my career I have worked with 'original' and 'cover' bands, and am comfortable in both situations. From the simple to the complex, reading, writing or busking, my focus is to create the best music to fit the song.
Originally self taught, I honed my skills with a BA (Hons) Applied Music degree from Strathclyde University, where I specialised in Performance and Orchestration.
There I had the privilege of studying with maestros such as Rick Standley (Principle Bass of the Scottish Ballet), and arrangement/orchestration with Adrian Drover (BBC Scottish Radio Orchestra, Maynard Ferguson Big Band).
